St Nicolas

Church of England Primary School, Abingdon

Year 5 (Class 12)

Welcome to the Class 12

webpage

During this term we will be exploring the Tudors by re-enacting the Battle of Bosworth, carefully delving into the life of King Henry VIII and his six wives, investigating the life of Sir Francis Drake and holding our very own Tudor Banquet!

If you want to do a little of your own research on this, maybe try the following website. Click here

Our engage activity - Off with her Head! 5 Sir Francis Drake's expedition around the world
As part of our engage activity the children researched some of the key events within the Tudors using the learning pads and Ipads. They then worked within a small group to produce a freeze frame to represent this event. Class 12 had lots of fun with this and the end product was great, with a clear focus on facial expressions and body positions. Using these images, they worked with Mrs Carlin to write a short piece of writing in the first person.

A trip to Sulgrave Manor

We all had a great trip to Sulgrave Manor, renacting the lives (and deaths!) of King Henry VIII and his six wives, finding out about the lives of both the rich and poor Tudors and looking at the different buildings. It was such a great day out and the children were a real credit to the school!

BBC News live from Class 12!

Over the last few weeks, we have been researching and learning about the sinking of the Mary Rose. In literacy, we have written, recorded and edited our very own 'breaking news' story using the ipads and iMovie. We all loved it and the children learnt so much; we can't wait to have another go on a different project! Here's one for you to enjoy...

Group Tudor Presentation

We were incredibly proud of children from Class 12 who teamed with children from Class 11 to produce a fantastic presentation on various areas of the Tudors. You could see the effort they had put in and presented their findings beautifully and with real enthusiasm. It was finished off with an excellent round of questions, followed with some super reponses!

We would both like to say a massive 'Thank you' for the most amazing Tudor Projects! You blew us both away with everything that you brought into school and it was a real treat to share these, along with our Tudor dancing, at the recent Express Event.

A HUGE well done Class 12!

Love from,

Mrs Swan and Mrs Carlin
