Tag Rugby:

On Monday 7th November the year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby team took part in the Vale Tag Rugby competition at Grove Rugby Club.  All of the children played really well and showed great team spirit.  After not many practises as a team, the team beat the odds winning every game in their group.

They then progressed to the quarter finals beating Ridgeway School 6-4.

In the semi-finals they were up against Shrivenham (last year’s winners) and again beat them 6-4.

The final was against Milbrook, who they had beaten in the group stages; it was a very tight game and came down to a ‘golden try’ after the game finished 7-7.  After a lot of ‘toing and frowing’, unfortunately Milbrook came out on a top snatching a sneaky win after 3 turnovers!

Despite being disappointed in losing, the team showed great sportsmanship and were proud of their achievements- being the first team we have ever had reach the finals.

They will now go onto play in Pool A of the Chairman’s Cup in May.

Year 6 Football:

This week the Year 6 football team have played two fixtures; a 7-a-side against Wantage and a 9-a-side against Stanford in the Vale.

A high level of teamwork, communication and skill ensured a 9-6 victory for St Nicolas against Wantage and a 5-1 victory against Stanford in the Vale.

Congratulations to the team and all the very best in their next fixtures.

Swimming Gala:

The annual Abingdon Swimming Gala took place on Wednesday afternoon where we had a Boys and Girls team representing St Nicolas.  15 teams across Abingdon took part.  After a total of 4 individual races and 2 medleys, I am pleased to say that the Boys team came 4th and the Girls team came 1st.  Another wonderful outcome for the school.

Both the boys and girls team will represent Abingdon in the Vale tournament that is due to take place in January.

They all delivered strong individual performances with the B team achieving 5th position out of 12 schools. The A team proceeded with a fantastic 2nd place overall, taking them through to the Vale finals in a few weeks time. A really entertaining afternoon of tennis. Well done to you all! Chairman’s Cup Tag Rugby Year 5/6:

It was an absolute pleasure taking 9 children to the tag-rugby County Finals following on from our second place in the Vale Finals. The overall standard of rugby was incredibly high and hugely challenging for the children.

Fantastic effort from the whole year 5/6 tag rugby team. They played tremendously in their pool on a very hot day, gaining them a well earned place in the semi final against Millbroom.
A hard fort game saw them finish with a draw meaning extra time for golden goal.
After a great turn over and converting it into a golden goal St Nics secured their place in the final 11/10 against THE BATT.
St Nics fort hard and didn't put their heads down but just couldn't gain the advantage on a very strong opponent. Runners up against The Batt 8/4.
Welldone to the whole team & thankyou to parents and family for all your support

Vale Tennis Finals:8th June Faringdon

Yesterday afternoon, our team of tennis players competed in the Vale Finals after successfully making it through from the Abingdon partnership competition. Once again, the standard of tennis was high but every child represented the school with a strong level of competition and fairness. The children finished 5th and every child should be proud of their achievements. Well done for reaching this stage of the competition.

Girls Cricket Year 5&6: 21st June Thomas Reade

What a lovely day for a game of cricket. The girls yr5&6 team played exceptionally well having been fast tracked to the final, against a very strong team Thomas Reade.

The team showed great determination and worked well together. Batting 2nd they had a tall order to beat 270 runs. After a shaky start they settled and managed to hit a few 4's achieving a very respectful 219 to earn 2nd place. Promising performances from all the team.

Boys Cricket Year 5: 4th July Thomas Reade
Another fantastic day of cricket, with some very promising performances.

After a difficult loss to Thomas Reade in the 1st match, the team took on board a few adjustments and worked well as a team to secure a win against Radley 243 - 236.

A very well earned 2nd place overall.

Welldone to all the team

Boys County Cricket Finals Year 6: 5th July Kidlington Cricket Club
As was to be expected a very high standard of teams took part in today's County Finals Cricket tournament.
Playing in pool 4, 3 matches St Nics took a difficult 1st game loss against Wychwood, who had fantastic bowlers taking 8 of our wickets. 252 for 8 - 195 for 3
After a lack of discipline and concentration, St Nics pushed on in scorching temperatures against Sydford Gower. Playing much better as a team and listening to their captains management they performed much better but just couldn't quite make enough runs losing 271 for 2 - 249 for 4
We had high hopes for our final match against West Kidlington, however, that lack of discipline within the team again disrupted our performance and we took another loss 273-255.
Some good lessons learned and promising performances for the future.
