Term 2

Term 2 - Frozen Kingdom
This term, Year 5 focus on 'Frozen Kingdom', where we will explore significant polar explorers, including Robert Falcon Scott, Ernest Shackleton, Roald Amundsen and Ranulph Fiennes. Year 5 have created some excellent biographies to showcase their research skills and demonstrate what they have learnt about these significant individuals.
During this topic, we learn more about the two polar regions of the world, the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as recognise differences between these two regions.
In addition to this, Year 5 also learn about the events that took place leading to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. To complement this, we read Michael Morpurgo's Kaspar Prince of Cats, which is always a firm favourite with the children! Across this topic, we have explored different poetic structures, which have allowed the children to create a range of poetry, including acrostic poems, concrete poems and more independent free verse poetry.
